Obi Mikel staying at Chelsea

John Obi Mikel’s agent has quashed speculation the player could be leaving Chelsea this summer.

Reports had linked The Blues midfielder to Serie A champions Inter to link up with former boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho gave Mikel his break in English football, fighting off competition from Manchester United to snatch the midfielder from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo.

But his agent, John Ola Shittu, has ruled out the possibility of a swift reunion with the Inter boss.

“Chelsea are right behind him," his agent told brilafm.net. "They are very happy with him and they want to keep him for as long as possible.

“In the next one or two weeks, we are probably going to be able to give you guys more good news. Mikel is not going anywhere.

“He is staying with Chelsea. He is 100 per cent committed to the cause and that’s where he is going to be for now.”

Obi Mikel off to Inter?

JOSE MOURINHO is poised to make a £15million raid for Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel.

Inter Milan boss Mourinho knows Nigerian ace Mikel still has two years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

But the former Chelsea chief wants to get in quickly with a bid to take the midfielder, 22, to Italy.

Mikel deputised for enforcer Michael Essien while he was out with a long-term knee injury this season and earned glowing reports.

Inter are ready with a five-year deal for Mikel — the player Mourinho signed in controversial circumstances from Norwegian club Lyn Oslo in 2006.

The Portuguese boss won a three-way tug of war involving Manchester United and Lyn.

But Mikel joined Mourinho’s Blues only after Premier League rivals United claimed he had signed for them.

John Obi Mikel Banned

Chelsea's Nigerian international midfielder John Obi Mikel was banned from driving for 15 months on Friday after he admitted to being drunk behind the wheel in London.

Mikel, 22, was found to be almost twice the limit when stopped by police in his black Range Rover near Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium in west London in January.

District Judge Jeremy Coleman banned him from driving for 15 months and ordered him to pay 1,580 pounds at West London Magistrates' Court.

Mikel joined Chelsea in a controversial deal in June 2006, with the London club paying four million pounds to Norwegian club Lyn Oslo and a further 12 million pounds to Manchester United, who had a prior agreement to sign him.

Mikel's new Contract

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is set to agree a new contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, according to the player's agent.

The 22-year-old has been a regular this season, with sources in Italy suggesting Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho was ready to make him the successor to Patrick Vieira after working with the Nigeria international while at Chelsea.

But Mikel's agent, John Shittu, told the Evening Standard: "We are now discussing the renewal of the contract."

He added: "There has been interest from different clubs in Spain and Italy, not forgetting some big teams in England, but John will remain at Chelsea.

"For the time being his only concern is to ensure his position with the Blues and until he has done that he will go nowhere."

Hiddink Praises Chelsea

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink hailed his side's defensive display in the 0-0 draw at Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, first leg.

The Blues became the first visiting side to keep a clean sheet at the Camp Nou this season.

"We are pleased with the result," said Dutchman Hiddink.

"When you look at the short history of Barca and what their results have been and the score here, it's quite an achievement against a beautiful team."

Hiddink was not satisfied with his team's use of the ball in possession but says their mental strength played a significant part in going into the return leg on 6 May on level terms.

"We must play better when we are in possession," he stated. "We can play better, although it is also due to the opponents, who do not let you play that easily.

"But on a mental part I think that this team has a lot of courage and blood that they want to sacrifice and win in all circumstances. This is mentally a very tough team."
